Ari Summerville meets a stranger one evening in a pub in Wales who constantly drips water, calling himself a man of the lake. He tells her a tale about a goddess-cursed, drowned castle full of riches. Before he departs he tells her that he can see magic around her and says, “blood has called to blood.”
After that mysterious meeting, she finds herself pulled into a world in which the legend is true and the treasure is guarded by a dark fairy who wants to keep her in his underwater realm forever. Meanwhile, a man is also seeking the horde of gold and jewels. He threatens to kill both her and a young man she is falling in love with if she refuses to help him.
Will she survive when caught between mortal and supernatural dangers?
Ari Summerville has settled in a village in Wales when a beautiful woman from Scotland arrives one day at the pub she owns.
The woman tells a dark tale of a lost town, a murdered prince, and a stolen golden torc. Ari gathers her friends and goes searching for the vanished town and artifact. After recovering the object, all seems well until a member of the group is murdered in a gruesome fashion.
Discovering that the woman from the north is actually a dangerous fairy who steals the golden torc for herself, Ari and her boyfriend go in search of her and the missing artifact. After the fairy woman kills her lover, Ari must make a terrible choice to try to bring him back from the dead.

Ari Summerville’s life seemingly has settled down. Her husband’s career is doing well; she herself has become a lawyer, and they both have been blessed with a daughter with the nickname Arrow.
Arrow carries within her not only fairy blood, but the blessing of Madam Pele, the Hawaiian volcano goddess, from when she was conceived in Hawaii and her parents did a favor for the goddess.
All is well, and Arrow is headed off to college when an accident takes the life of her father. Her mother, Ari, becomes obsessed with bringing him back from the dead. Ari finds references to an ancient artifact called the Cauldron of Rebirth that can bring the dead back to life.
Arrow tells her mother to let her father rest in peace, for the cauldron will return the body to life, but not restore the soul. Instead, Arrow’s mother goes on a quest for the ancient artifact while her daughter seeks to stop her. In the end, magic will have to fight magic for the soul of Arrow’s father and Ari’s husband.
